"Anna" Poem
The gift came with a poem about Anna:
"This is Anna in miniature
Armed for new duties to be sure.
Her dress will make your tumblers shine
Her veil will make a duster fine.
Her hands equipped in such up-to-date style
Will turn out the dainties that make "hubby" smile.
Her shower bouquet you will some day rob
When biscuit-making becomes your job.
The snowy-white clothes on the line being dried
Held safely in place by the pins at her side.
When miniature Anna hides her face
`Tis a safe guess that cake fixing's taking place.
The support that now makes her stand her ground
Is as useful an article as was ever found.
For when "hubby" becomes fractious as he sometimes may
You’ll be well prepared to settle the fray.
Not a useless article will you see
Even part of her shower insures well-strained tea
To this wee bride with her stylish bobbed hair
You’ve but to say ‘mop’ and she’ll be right there.
This proves the truth of the saying that was—
'Handsome is as handsome does.' "
