"Come to the Public Schools--Learn the Language of America"
Released by the board of education of Cleveland, OH, in 1917, this unusual poster shows immigrant parents watching as their son points out his ABCs. Written in Italian, Polish, Yiddish, and three other languages, the poster illustrates the important role of the school system in the Americanization process--for students and parents alike.
