J.R.'s Hat
1978-1983
Las Vegas-style cowboy hat
This light brown felt cowboy hat with feathered hatband was worn by actor Larry Hagman as the character J.R. Ewing on the hit television series "Dallas" between 1979 and 1983. The hat is a foremost symbol of a production that generated remarkable national and international public interest. The show's "Americanness" undoubtedly contributed to its hold on audiences all over the world as well as the lure of watching a luxurious universe in which exaggerated characters played out their lives without the restraints familiar to ordinary mortals.
