Eighteenth-Century Pharmacy
1933
The Bristol-Myers Squibb European apothecary
This 18th-century European apothecary has been on view at the Smithsonian Institution since 1945. Assembled by Jo Mayer, a pharmacist from Wiesbaden, Germany, the collection contains European-crafted ceramic and glass pharmaceutical containers, mortars, and pestles. The collection--the most extensive collection of its kind in the country--was purchased and brought to the United States by the E.R. Squibb & Sons Pharmaceutical Company.
Notes
 |
The collection was the centerpiece of the Squibb exhibit at the Century of Progress Exposition in Chicago in 1933. |
